Imagerie – Casa de Imagens

Founded in 2008, Imagerie – Casa de Imagens is a project with its own distinct place in Lisbon's photography scene. Created by Magda Fernandes and José Domingos, it is at once a studio, a laboratory, and a meeting point, dedicated to exploring alternative, experimental, and tangible photographic processes within contemporary visual production. Its purpose is to be a living resource for anyone who works with images — photographers, artists, students, or even just curious minds.

We believe in photography as a process, not only as a result. That's why we're dedicated to exploring alternative and experimental processes, promoting access to them and to their creative possibilities. Every workshop, project, or collaboration starts from the idea that experimenting is learning, and learning is sharing.

Imagerie is a continuously growing community, a place where photography is taught, questioned, and reinvented, together.

Structuring pillars of our activities:

Training offerings

regular schedule of hands-on workshops at the studio, covering both technical and exploratory approaches to alternative and experimental photographic processes, as well as occasional sessions with guest artists.

Educational Projects

in partnership with cultural and community institutions (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, MUHNAC [National Museum of Natural History and Science], Lisbon Architecture Triennale, Cascais Cultural Centre, Vale da Amoreira Centre for Artistic Experimentation, APSA [Portuguese Association of Aspergers Syndrome], among others).

Personal/Authored Work

solo and group exhibitions in Lisbon, Amarante, Barreiro, Ponta Delgada, Setúbal, Porto, Vila do Conde, Spain, Mexico, the USA, Peru, and Colombia, with projects supported by Dgartes and Lisbon City Council.

Community Projects

projects that engage the community and challenge people to reflect on the role of photography in the contemporary world, such as Latas na Cidade ("Cans in the City"), TOSCA, or Arquivo das Imagens Não Vistas [Archive of Unseen Images].

Editing and Publishing

development of independent authored and editorial projects (TOSCAzine, Arquivo das Imagens Não Vistas [Archive of Unseen Images], "Desire to See, Photography and Nature: A Hypothesis of Encounter," Paradise Found, etc.) and artist's books (Coleção Conto Azul [Blue Tale Collection]), as well as collaborations with magazines and publishers (Philos, Ibero-American literary magazine (Brazil); Hand, magazine for reproduction-based art (USA); Propeller; Huggly Books; Companhia das Ilhas (Portugal), etc.)
